Danish Pastry
Setup: These instructions seem to be missing something, but they are typed here exactly as grandma jinny typed them. the shortening amount doesn't add up. and it doesn't say what to do with the melted shortening or when to mix the yeast with the dry ingredients..) if you know how to correct them, please let us know.
Ingredients: |
½ cup Shortening |
1 cake Yeast |
1 cup warm Milk |
3 Eggs |
⅔ cup Sugar |
2 tsp. Salt |
4½ cups Flour |
Method: Melt ½ cup Shortening. cool.
mix Yeast with Milk in small bowl.
in a large bowl mix Eggs, Sugar, Salt, and Flour.
(Mix Sugar, Salt, Shortening. Beat in Eggs. Stir in Yeast mixture and 3 cups Flour until smooth; stir in enough additional Flour to make a soft easy-to-handle dough).
chill 2 hours.
roll out and spread ⅔ of dough with ½ cup Shortening. fold over twice and roll out again.
repeat with ⅓ cup Shortening and roll again, in a Cookie sheet.
chill in pans overnight. next day, cut into long strips and twist, then roll into cOils..
let rise 1 hour. bake at 350°until lightly brown. (they don't take long to bake.)
frost with Powdered Sugar icing and toasted coconut or PeaNuts.
